THE DIFFERENCE AN ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE MAKES (ACCORDING TO 8 COLLEGE STUDENTS)

1.  “An eternal perspective is a lens through which we look at life’s many situations.  This bigger picture helps us determine how to respond to each situation by considering the destination of each path we have to choose from.”

2.  “An eternal perspective is living in a way that puts things of eternal worth first.”

3.  “An eternal perspective understands that everything on the temporal side of the grave is preparation for the eternal side of the grave.”

MY STORY OF FAITH IN 100 WORDS

People used to call me a “church poster boy.”  Ask me, “Why will God accept you?” and I’d have said, “I’m striving to be like Jesus, my role model.”

Then a friend challenged my thinking, helping me understand, because of sin, no amount of striving could get me back on good terms with God.

That’s when Jesus made sense to me for the first time.  He didn’t come to be a role model, but a perfect sacrifice to satisfy God’s requirements to make forgiveness possible.

Now my motivation for being like Jesus isn’t “to be” accepted but “because” I’m accepted.

THE STORY OF ONE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FINDING FAITH

By Jian Huang

From China to the United States

About one year and a half ago, I came to USA with my Bachelor degree for the Ph.D program. It’s my first time to leave my country and live in an unfamiliar country. At that time, I had a lot of imagination of what I’m going to face with in America. The first several months in America, I was very excited but also frustrated. I was excited to live in a totally different and beautiful environment, but frustrated to talk in English and eat American food.

We cannot argue against them without using them.

THE ROLE OF INTUITION IN OUR SEARCH FOR GOD

When’s the last time you had a hunch about something that was later proven right?

We all have gut feelings.

Inside us all is a sense of moral intuition.  A voice that should be listened to.  It can be helpful.  Like a warning light, it influences what and whom we trust.

20 JOURNAL QUESTIONS TO SHARPEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON HARD TIMES

It’s interesting how two people can experience the same tragedy, yet respond in opposite ways.

One person gives up while the other grows stronger.
One person despairs while the other has hope.
One person runs from God while the other runs to Him.

It seems that the perspective we have on life’s trials may be more important that we realized.

For this reason, I’ve compiled 20 questions to help the way you think about hard times.  Feel free to copy and paste this blog post into a document you can print.  In fact, you mind find it most helpful to print one question per page, and tackle one a day for 20 days.

IS GOD PERSONAL?

Some Questions Keep Us Up at Night.

These are the ones we can’t seem to shake because, no matter how those questions are answered, the implications directly impact our lives.  So these should really take priority.

Among the handful of questions which people most often lose sleep over is this one, “Is God a personal God?”

Whether or not your lips have ever voiced that question, no doubt your heart has asked it

…deep down

…more than once.

RYAN WOODS, CANCER AND COMPASSION

Have you heard the name, Ryan Woods?

There are a number of reasons his name might sound familiar.

  • It could be that you’ve seen his story featured on the Soul Pancake project by Rainn Wilson from The Office.  The video, “My Last Days: Meet Ryan Woods”, has been viewed nearly 100,000 times.
  • It could be that you read the article written about him in The Columbian.
  • It could be that you’ve seen the mural downtown Vancouver, WA, painted as a tribute to Ryan.
  • Maybe you followed Ryan’s blog, Musings From The Ground Up, or read him on Stories of the Sifted.
  • Or you may even have seen his story featured on Koin Local 6 news.

So why all this coverage?  Because my friend Ryan, who died from cancer early this month, was a remarkable person who left behind a legacy of love.  If you watch the videos I’ve included below, you’ll see what I’m talking about.

FINDING GOD IN EARTHQUAKES AND WHISPERS

By Rob Hindman

He arrived at the mountain with sore feet, an empty stomach, and no clear reason why he had even come in the first place.  The man history calls Elijah had left civilization on a one-day trip into the wilderness, hoping to die.  He had ended up hoofing it for weeks until he reached the mountain where God had appeared to his ancient predecessor, Moses, many generations before.
