THE HEART GOD’S LOOKING FOR

By Gus Hernandez, Jr.

Humility is such an interesting word.

At times, humility is seen as a compliment.  However, not everyone in the public spectrum views humility as an important trait to pursue and exemplify.  I’d even go as far as to say the word “humility” has caused much confusion.

In our culture, humility isn’t necessarily one of the top qualities people aspire to obtain.   Let’s face it, we’re encouraged to build our resumes by acquiring knowledge, studying hard, refining your skills, and gathering experience to ultimately set ourselves apart from the rest of the crowd.  This makes it difficult for us to understand the value of humility.

PERSONALIZING 1 JOHN 3:1-3

Personalize 1 John 3:1-3 (The Message), by speaking your name in every blank.

What marvelous love the Father has extended to                !  Just look at it—                is  called a child of God!  That’s who he/she really is.  But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize                 or take him/her seriously, because it has no idea who [the Father] is or what he’s up to.

20 QUESTIONS FOR 1,000 CHRISTIANS (PART 1)

“If you could ask 1,000 Christians one question, what would it be?”

That’s one of nearly twenty questions I ask people on a weekly basis.  There’s a lot of insight to be gained by listening to the questions people are asking.

If you’re new to my blog, click Drawing Conclusions to learn more about my art and the interviews I conduct every week.  Most of the people I meet with for coffee are students at the University of Delaware.

In this post, I’ve compiled twenty questions for Christians, asked by the first twenty people I interviewed.  Be sure to leave a comment and share the link with a friend.

PERSONALIZING PHILIPPIANS 3:15-21

Personalize Philippians 3:15-21 (The Message), by speaking your name in every blank.

I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning                 onward—to Jesus.  I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us.  If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet!  Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.

INTERVIEW #21 – JOZIE (22, CHINA)

DRAWING CONCLUSIONS: INTERNATIONAL STUDENT “SEEKER”

1.   What is your religious background?
I have no religion.  My parents have no religion.  I think China is famous for some of the Buddhist.  So if you travel to famous cities, they will have the temples.  People don’t know specifically about this religion.  They go to the temple and pray there but they don’t know specifically what that means.  Before I went to college, I went to a famous place and I prayed in a temple for my exams; I prayed for my future; prayed for my career.  I prayed to my great grandmother.  I think I believe she heard me.  I think she will give me power.

THE GRACE AND TRUTH PARADOX (A REVIEW)

Randy Alcorn is one of my top five favorite living authors.  I’ve read at least fifteen of his books.  In fact, his perspectives, illustrations, and stories often find their way into the Bible studies I teach as a Campus Minister.

About The Book

In The Grace and Truth Paradox, Randy takes on the “apparent contradiction” found in the co-existence of God’s truth and God’s grace.  He starts by appealing to John 1:1,14, where we’re told that Jesus came, “full of grace and truth.”  From there, he elaborates on what truth is and what grace is, exploring the dangers of emphasizing one at the expense of the other.

PERSONALIZING PSALM 27:4-9

Personalize Psalm 27:4-9 (The Message), by speaking your name in every blank.

only one thing:
To live with him in his house
his/her whole life long.
                will contemplate his beauty;
                will study at his feet.

DOES YOUR HEART WELCOME TRUTH?

By: Dr. Guy Chmieleski

If the measure of one’s life were in direct proportion to the size of risks taken, or the amount of experiences explored – how would yours measure up thus far?

I’d bet that some of you could point to some very sizeable risks taken. And others might be able to point to ways in which you’ve intentionally explored the bounds of life.

Yet, when it comes to faith in God, people often don’t approach it with the same interest. I think there are two primary reasons for this:

INTERVIEW #20 – CHARLES (85, CARLSBAD, NM)

DRAWING CONCLUSIONS: RETIRED PREACHER

1.  What is your religious background?
I grew up in the Church of Christ.

2.  Do you currently practice a religious faith? If not, why?
I went to school at Abilene Christian College [University] to be a teacher and athletic coach.  I moved to Carlsbad [because] the man who had been my high school coach wanted me to come back and work in their system.  That was in 1949.  By the spring of ’50, I started preaching.  [Over the years, I preached in New Mexico, Oklahoma City, Montana, and Texas].
[Eventually] Somehow we got in contact with the elders of the College Church in Abilene.  They approached us about coming to the North East.  We moved to Delaware in ’63, [and have been here almost ever since].
